Bob Hipsley was born on May 9, 1939 in Martinsburg, West Virginia.  His family moved to Washington, DC in 1941.  He grew up in Northwest Washington with his brother and two sisters, where he attended Coolidge High School.  After graduation, he began his apprenticeship at the Government Printing Office in 1958.  He stayed there for 50 years, almost 10 years beyond the date he was eligible to retire.  He stayed because he loved his work and the people with whom he worked.  He married Mary Comer in 1965.  They have four children and six grandchildren.  He was an accomplished musician who loved playing music on stage with the famous and not-so-famous, or at home for his family.  He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, cats, squirrels and many other assorted animals.

Bob played string and electric bass professionally for 50 years.  He joined the Gross National Product in 1981.  Bob was considered the best bass player on the East Coast.  He could play any song in any style of music, with a repertoire that most musicians only dream of playing.  The GNP is proud to say that Bob Hipsley was, and always will be, our Magnificent Music Machine.
We will miss him more than words can express.
